Tugboat
Acme (1994-2017) was founded in Santa Monica by Robert Gunderman and Randy Sommer, both of whom had previously worked together at the alternative space Food House. In 1997 ACME moved to 6150 Wilshire Boulevard, where it was located for 20 years. In 2016 ACME moved to Frogtown, before closing in 2017. The gallery was a stalwart of the early 2000’s scene and represented many of the city’s most important artists such as Laura Owens, Martin Kersels, Tomory Dodge, Jennifer Steinkamp, and John Sonsini. In addition to its focus on local artists, ACME also worked with New York based Natalie Frank, Kurt Kauper, Kristin Baker, Tony Feher, and Berlin based Kai Althoff.
