Not a machine you could build. This is the diagram underneath the ones we do build — the arrangement of forces that any working device is a local instance of.
The series asks what holds the whole thing together, and this drawing gives the least romantic possible answer: mechanism, indifferent and running. Fourteen by eleven inches, small enough that you have to come close to it.
