The first of the wave drawings, and the one that set the method: build the field by hand, stroke by stroke, until the invisible has an edge. No reference photograph, because there is nothing to photograph.
Calling it No. 1 rather than naming it was deliberate. The series treats these as specimens of forces rather than pictures of them, and a catalogue number keeps the drawing from explaining itself before you've looked.
