Fruit stacked into a pyramid, and a pyramid scheme is a structure that pays the top from the bottom until the bottom runs out. Both readings are available and neither is decorative.
Made as biotechnology was becoming an investment category. New biology gets sold the way anything else gets sold, and the promise at the top is always funded by whatever is underneath it.
