Propaganda has a grammar — the raised hand, the rising sun, bold color, a design simple enough to speak to the masses without raising its voice. This group borrows those forms, the same emblems built to hold a system together, but the message they carry is aimed at the soul rather than the ballot box.
I was living in New York in 2008. I went down to the Wall Street protests a few times, and what I remember most was how unfazed the brokers were — some of them standing at the windows above, literally looking down at the crowd. It was a moment when both sides of the seam that holds the country together were coming apart at the same time. These drawings came out of that.
